Lancaster County Farmers' Market

In the early thirties, a group of farmers from the Ephrata, PA area discussed the possibilities of opening a farmers market on the Mainline of Philadelphia. In 1933, Norman and Florence Sweigart rented a building in Rosemont and invited a variety of merchants from Lancaster County to join them.  The market was simply named the Lancaster County Farmers Market because most of the merchants were from Lancaster.

In 1950 Norman Sweigart was informed that the Rosemont market building was being sold to Acme and that the Lancaster County Farmers Market was going to have to find a new home. On April 7, 1951 the Lancaster County Farmers Market opened its doors in downtown Wayne.

In 1977, when the market moved to its present location, most of the new stand holders came from Delaware County, the market's location.  At times the market is referred to as the Wayne Market but we have formally kept the original name, Lancaster County Farmers Market.

The range of vendors, and quality, sets this market apart. Coffee shops, barbecue, hand rolled pretzels, fine pastries, home made pasta, salmon, and meats and cheeses complement the two fine produce stands that greet customers on entry.

In addition, you can purchase hand made crafts, wearables and accessories.

Thornton Farmers' Market

The only way you could get closer to nature is if you pulled the vegetables out of the ground yourself. Shopping at the outdoor market, which is held every Saturday in a field on Glen Mills Road, is a chance to meet the farmers, artisans and chefs who provide all the farm-fresh products. For the past nine years, a growing list of vendors and shoppers have made the market a must-see destination.

Although a farmers market is mostly about growing edibles, the second important concept is that entrepreneurs start their own businesses, generate customer bases, and have the opportunity to play at the game we all loved as kids -- setting up shop. The community gets to know itself, and the summers are defined and cherished for the brief period they are. It is a good thing all round."

Between Thornton and Cheyney roads.

OPEN

Saturdays: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. from May 9 to the end of October. \
